Warrior Innocent Cover Reveal

So...it only took me 4 years to finish this series, but it's done and I cried for two months after I wrote "The End". BUT my pretty unicorns are saving the day for the last time...or are they?

Bwahahaha

Anyway! Here is my cover. It's releasing soon and I can't wait!

Blurb:

Until Ariston gives Scout an offer she can’t refuse.
Now, she’s waging an internal war--follow her heart or follow orders? She believes she can save lives and maybe end this war, but everyone else…
Everyone else believes she’s leading them straight into Ariston’s waiting arms.

Cover Reveal! Cauldron Bubble

I haz a new book baby coming!! Actually, I have two, but Warrior Innocent doesn't release until January. SO. Let me introduce you to my witches, Destiny and Fate. Destiny is the main character in Cauldron Bubble and she's a feisty one with a big black truck and a penchant for love spells...but just so she can buy new shoes.

I wrote this one specifically because I bribed my cross country team and told them if they would beat their PRs, I would put them in my next book. So Destiny runs on the cross country team and all my amazing runners from the 2015 season have cameos :)

Tada!

 Here's what it's about:

“You’ve just always been the powerful one. I’m the smart aleck.”
“We’re the same. I’m night, you’re day. You have to have both to have life.”
“You can hide in the shadows.”
“And you can shine like the sun. This prophesy is about both of us.”

Destiny doesn't think she's anything special. The daughter of an outcast witch. Her twin, Fate, is her best friend, so that's awesome. They're experts in love potions and selling them to crazy high school kids.

So they can buy more shoes.

But that all changes when their school is attacked by warlocks—warlocks who want her power for their own. The attack launches her onto the path the stars have chosen for Destiny, Fate, and their long-lost father.

Oh, and Quin.

Quin, who's the son of a witch, only tolerating Destiny's presence because she can save his mother. Except along the way, that all changes, and he realizes Destiny is everything he never knew he wanted. The only problem is she thinks if love can be made from a potion, it can't be a real thing.

If they survive this, he's going to prove her wrong.

And here's a sneak peek!

She could see her team warming up, led by the two captains, Shad and Elise. But she couldn't talk herself into getting out of the dang truck. "Stupid Winnie," she muttered. She closed her eyes again and sent all her negative thoughts Winnie's way.
The door next to her elbow opened. "Destiny, I'm going to ask you straight out. Are you a wit-"
She squealed and swung her fist out before her mind had a chance to comprehend what was happening.
And hit Quin right in the face.
He swore, stumbling backward as he grabbed his face. Destiny stared in horror, unsure what to do. There was blood. Lots of blood.
She hated blood.
The world around her started to spin and she covered her mouth, fighting not to throw up.
"Dammit, Destiny!" Quin bellowed behind his hands.
"I'm sorry. I didn't know—wait. Hang on." She whirled in her seat and dug through her bag, looking for the potion she'd used after Krav Maga. "Here. Drink this."
"Now's not the time, Destiny," he growled.
She reached across the truck and flipped open the glove compartment, digging for napkins. She grabbed a handful and sat up, thrusting them at Quin's general area while trying not to look at him as much as possible. "Here. Then drink this." She handed him the potion again, saw the blood, and everything went black.

It releases October 8th! My newsletter subscribers get a special price, so make sure you sign up!

Raif and Me: Part 5

It's my turn again! I love the twists and turns this experiment takes, each of us adding our own unique style--Kelly's mystery, Leah's wit, and my super-powerful, paranormal girl :) Every time I get a chance to write, I get more and more excited about this story!

In case you'd like to catch up:

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

It was so dark wherever I was being held that I wouldn’t have been able to tell my eyes were open except for the burning—like someone had set my eyes on fire with overachieving gasoline. Or, you know, something less crazy. My groan echoed, telling me I was somewhere cavernous. And I was freezing. And the smell…inhuman. Intoxicating. It almost lured my eyes closed again.
Yeah. Raif had brought me home—his real home, not the nondescript brownstone townhouse I’d been stalking for the last six years while he pretended to be a regular human with a massive case of OCD. I hadn’t been here since…
My mind revolted. No. The last time I’d been here, I’d almost lost my soul. And I would not let it happen again. He’d been ever so polite when he’d brought me here—apparently thinking I was obedient enough that I didn’t need to be tied up. The only thing stopping me from walking right out was the blasted darkness and my aching head.
My head would require Advil. And Pepsi. Lots of it. But the darkness? That I could do something about.
Raif might be one-of-a-kind, but so was I.  Yeah, I might look human. And act human. But I was a different sort of bird altogether.
Just like Raif.
But also the opposite of Raif. I was good. I was a guardian. Guarding the world from vampires and werewolves and demons.
And Raif.
I closed my eyes, digging around in my own soul until I found the tiny spark way back behind my heart. Wake up, little bird. It’s time to go to work.
Raif thought I wouldn’t try to escape. He thought I was that submissive—that after everything he put me through, I’d still stay like an obedient, furry pet. And six years ago, I would have. But not now. Raif didn’t know it, but in those six years of stalking him, I’d grown a backbone. And no one was going to lock me in the dark and expect me to sit there waiting for him to come home like an overeager puppy. I wasn’t a werewolf, after all.
I was a Phoenix.
I felt the heat consuming me—but not painful. Warm and safe. Strong. I felt my body change, as it had so many times before, felt the wings spread, the bones twisting, lightening.
My burning body lit up the cavern. How nice, he’d even left me dinner. And a blanket. He’d also installed a door since the last time I’d been there, but it didn’t matter. I had tears that healed, a bite that poisoned the soul—
--and wings that shed fire hotter than the sun.
The door and its pathetic little lock didn’t stand a chance.
I knew where Raif was going. I knew the Collection knew. So that’s where I was going, too. I hadn’t decided yet whose side I would be on when I got there. My heart whispered Raif. My mind bellowed Collection. And my soul waited quietly, reserving judgment.
I flew on silent, smoldering wings out of the cavern, through the tunnels that would have been impossible to find my way out of in the pitch blackness. Raif knew what I was. But when we’d been together, on the same side—both fighting for good—I hadn’t had the courage to shift. His kind was my ancient enemy, yet we both had believed in the same thing. Clearly, he thought nothing had changed in all these years.
But to survive him and the devastation he’d caused my heart, I’d had to shift. The first time I’d shifted, I’d sworn never to change back. Being human hurt.
So much.
But I was strong now. And even if I still loved him, I wouldn’t let him win. He’d shattered me once. He wouldn’t do it again.
I shifted as soon as I neared the entrance. Deep, dark caves and winding tunnels were Raif’s thing. He thought they were fun.  I didn’t mind them, but I didn’t have time for his games now. I had a world to save.

The funny thing about destiny? Everything you did to escape it seemed to lead you right to it. Destiny always wins.

Stay tuned for Part 6 coming next week from Kelly Martin!

Raif and Me: Part 2

So. This happened.
My two favorite friends and I started a pass around writing experiment. Leah Sanders started the story, then passed it on to me. Next week, Kelly Martin will take her turn, and then it will go back to Leah until the story is done. Each week, one of us will post the next section. See how fun?!

For Part ONE, check out Leah's blog post HERE
(Yes. Her blog is way cooler than mine. Mine won't let me change the font. Or the colors. Or...anything. My blog is possessed. And it haunts me.)

"He's moving," I hissed into the darkness. But no, I was not, as I know you assume, talking to myself. I was, in fact, talking to the bosses. The little transmitter attached to my collar made sure they were always listening. Always listening.

And lucky me, the little bug in my ear made sure I could hear them, too. "What? What do you mean, he's moving? He never moves on Friday!"

I rolled my eyes. "No kidding," I muttered. Their sharp intake of breath, simultaneous, as always, told me they had heard that, too. I winced, because I would pay for that little bit of sarcasm. Later.

But not now.

Now, I slid from shadow to shadow, watching Raif do the same. Trick or Treaters were everywhere, little ghosts and super heroes and witches and princesses. And monsters, of course, because what would Halloween be, without monsters?

Little did they know, there was a monster hunter in their midst.

And a real live monster, dressed in black and not carrying his book, set on seeking his own revenge.

"Justice," I heard him saying, over and over, timed with each step. "Justice. Justice. Justice."

Sometime next week, Kelly Martin will post the next installment. Check out her blog at http://www.kellymartinbooks.blogspot.com/

Feudlings in Smoke is HERE!!!

I absolutely love this story. It's Will's story. And it's based on the imaginary brother I had growing up (I didn't have any real ones around at the time). So I'm super excited that it's finally here!

Here's the blurb :)

Watching helplessly while your baby sister saves the world alone? It kinda sucks.
Will Delacour is one of the most powerful sorcerers to ever live. He’s Guard to the Edren Prodigy—his sister, Ari. But he walked away from the war, refusing to fight in a cause he didn’t believe in. He was deemed a traitor by the powerful Family, and now there’s a price on his head that leaves him trapped in a prison of his own making. And he can’t even tell the love of his life what she means to him because of the magical war that still controls their lives.
Instead of embracing his destiny, Will is forced to watch as Ari goes into battle over and over again, facing her enemies alone. She might be okay with it, but he’s not. He might not believe in the war, but he believes in her, and he knows his place is fighting by her side. Somehow, Will has to find a way to be there when Ari needs him, even if it means he forfeits his own life in the process.

Find it here on Amazon and (soon) Barnes and Noble!

My Warrior Beautiful Release Day!

I love, love, love, LOVE this book. So much. I'm so excited it's here and I can share it with everyone! Check out this gorgeous cover by AM Design Studios!

*dies happy*
Here's the back cover blurb:

Working with the ex you secretly love to save the souls of the innocent is almost as bad as working with a mighty battle unicorn who would be thrilled to watch you plummet to your death.
Scout is used to pain. Her body has been broken, her heart has been broken, and the only thing keeping her together is her relationship with her younger sister. Lil Bit believes in unicorns and terrifying monsters she calls soul stealers. But unicorns and monsters aren’t real…are they?
When Lil Bit falls prey to the mysterious disease sweeping the country, Scout has two options – believe the doctors who say it’s a pandemic or believe Lil Bit, who says it’s the soul stealers. She chooses her sister and goes looking for the unicorns who are supposed to save them. What she finds aren’t the cute pastel mythical creatures she expects. Battle unicorns are big and tough and full of attitude. Who knew?

Unicorns are real and so are the monsters. Soul stealers are reaping the souls of the innocent, and the unicorns are fighting to stop them. But to save the world, they need the help of humans – the enemy they’re dying to protect. And first to sign up for the fight is the ex-boyfriend Scout’s heart won’t stop loving, no matter how determined she is to hate him.

And here's one of my favorite parts in the book:

She tipped her head, and the candlelight glinted against her silky, honey-brown waves. Her hair had always been his undoing.
When they’d been together, he couldn’t keep his hands away from
her hair. Or her face. Her lips, her eyes…
“What was that on your shoulder?” She was speaking and
he had to drag his mind away from the past and try to figure out
what she was saying.
“My shoulder?”
She crossed the short space between them, hesitating, and
touched his shoulder. “Here.”
He nearly choked. She wasn’t supposed to see that. But now
the sea foam-green eyes were watching him with open curiosity
and her lips were parted... he couldn’t tell her ‘no’. Not then, not
now, not ever. He looked away, staring at the floor as he rolled the
black sleeve of his shirt.
“Forgive me,” she read in a whisper, her finger tracing the
hard black letters tattooed on his arm. Without looking from the
words, she said, “When did you get this?”
“After… while you… before you left the hospital.” His entire
body shook against her soft touch as she traced the ‘F’ again. Did
she realize what she did to him? What she still did to him, even
after all this time? No other girl had ever affected him the way she
did with just the barest touch of her fingertip.

Sweet Saturday Sample

This is my first time doing Sweet Saturday Sample but it sounds super fun! Basically, it's like a weekly mini-blog hop. You can hop from blog to blog to read different excerpts of authors' work. Isn't that cool? Go to Sweet Saturday Sample to see the list of everyone participating!

So mine is from my WIP (work in progress), the prequel to Feudlings. It's tentatively called The Spark of a Feudling. Here thou art - tell me what you think (but keep in mind this is VERY rough. I wrote it...and posted it. There was no re-reading or editing done).

Ada gasped. The goblets slipped from her numb fingers and crashed to the floor, shattering into hundreds of shards at her feet. As if from a distance she felt the wine soaking her slippers.
William's head jerked up and he jumped away from Harriett, his maid of all people. “Ada! Ada, I can explain--”
Ada turned and ran.
She picked up her skirts and raced back down the hall. William called her name behind her, but she didn't slow. She reached the stairs and hurtled down them, shoving people out of her way as she went. Tears threatened at the back of her eyelids, tears of humiliation and pain, but she refused to let them fall.
As she passed a window, a movement in the pasture caught her eye, and she lengthened her stride.
“Stop her! Ada, wait!” William called. He was at the top of the stairs now, but three more steps and she'd be out of his view. Bystanders gaped in shock, but no one moved fast enough to apprehend her.
She hit the main floor and sprinted for the wide front doors. Shoving them open, she didn't even bother to shut them as she raced down the marble steps, her wet slippered feet slipping and sliding. Taking the stairs two at a time, she hit the circular drive and ran across it, straight for the pasture.
Behind her, she could hear them still. William wasn't alone now—more men called her name, joining in the search. But she was an Edren sorcerer. Faster than all of them combined, probably, even in her wet slippers and heavy skirts.
She skidded to a stop at the fence. Only then did she feel the rain soaking her hair, her dress, hiding her tears. Lightning split the sky and thunder crashed and somewhere from beyond the realm of rational thought, she mused that such a storm was fitting.
She flung herself over the fence.
Maiden stood motionless in the middle of the field, watching Ada come. All the other animals hid, terrified, in the barn, but not this horse. In her silent stance, she mocked the storm and all its fury. Ada held out her hand, finally slowing to a walk as she neared close enough that the big horse could hear her. Murmuring sounds that had no meaning, she begged with her heart. I need your help.
Behind her, light spilled from the front doors as men emerged with lanterns held high. “She must have come this way! Search the barn!” she heard Bertram yell.
She glanced over her shoulder. William stood in the circular drive, his eyes wild and desperate as he turned round and round looking for her. But no one would think to look in the pasture with the beast they were all afraid of.
Maiden tossed her head once, pawing at the ground and snorting. “I will not let them hurt you. I will protect you, I promise.” Ada whispered. Charity would laugh at that—she was forever teasing Ada about her need to protect everyone.
Maiden lowered her head.
Without another thought, Ada launched herself onto the giant horse's back. If not for her magic, it would have been impossible, and she sent a silent, grateful prayer heavenward that she had been born a sorceress. Winding her fists in Maiden's mane, she leaned low as the big horse leaped forward.
Her hooves beat upon the ground, rivaling the thunder that shook the sky. Ada knew the instant the men heard the ground cracking under Maiden's feet. As one, they all turned toward the pasture, staring in shock as the giant horse bore down on them. Most of them scrambled back, but William did not move, eyes wide.
The fence loomed before them, and if Ada had had time, she would have been frightened, but there was no time. She saw the fence, and then they were leaping over it, easily, as if it were mere sticks on the ground. Her feet landed hard on the other side, within arms reach of William, and then the big horse whirled and raced down the dirt path.
Ada glanced over her shoulder. William sprang to action, yelling at someone to bring him a horse. But they would never catch her. His father had said Maiden was the fastest horse in the country, and they all knew that.
“Take me home, Maiden.”

Feudlings in Flames (Fate on Fire, book 2) Teaser!

The sequel to Feudlings releases in three weeks--September 3. THREE WEEKS! Would you like a teaser? I'll pretend you said yes and I'll go ahead and post it :)

"No no, Hunter, it curves this way." Ari stood back, watching with a frown, and then jumped back in. "Imagine in your mind what you want the spell to do. Tie your emotions to your spells."
Shane watched her guide Hunter and tried again on his own. "Close, Shane, but like this," Ari reached out, holding his hand as she led him through the motion. He felt the flames racing through his blood react to her touch and sparks flew from his fingers, igniting the spell. It hung, burning, in the air, a bright blue curlicue thing. "Perfect," she whispered, still holding on to his hand.

Cover Reveal for Feudlings in Sight

Please help us celebrate Astraea Press's first cover reveal; my very own Fate on Fire novella, Feudlings in Sight! Available THIS Thursday on Astraea Press, Amazon, and all other major ebook retailers!

Blurb: Boys of war suck at romance.
Charity Delyle has lived in the shadow of her Prodigy cousin and his powerful Guard since the day she was born. And she doesn’t mind—really. Except that being in Hunter’s shadow means that he can’t see her. And she’d like that to change.
Hunter has one purpose in life: Protect the Prodigy, or die trying. That means a social life, school, and even Charity come last until the war is over. For the most part, he’s okay with that—he can lose everything if he has to…except his seer.
Starting at a new school should be much safer than living in a war-ravaged Carules headquarters. But this new school is different than the others. Friendships are forged and destinies are questioned, and Hunter’s decision could cost them all everything they've been hoping for.

Excerpt: “Okay, do you want to practice the ones we learned last week or just start new ones?” She had carefully color-coded the spell book with sticky tabs — spells they had mastered, spells they had practiced, spells that would come in handy one day — she was very organized. And if the Council ever found out she put sticky tabs in a book that was over three hundred years old, they would kill her completely dead.
“Learn as much as you can, Shane. Gonna be hard to find a place to practice in the mountains of Utah, surrounded by Normals.” Hunter idly traced spells in the air, letting them fizzle and die without igniting them.
“Well, alright.” Charity flipped to the red section — spells that would come in handy one day. She started at the top. “This one is called an Al-able.” The odd word rolled awkwardly off her tongue. “It’s like… it looks like it’s sort of a flat triangle of flames.”
Hunter and Shane both walked over, studying the spell in the book before tracing it slowly into the air. The spell wouldn't actually ignite until they lit it with the flames roiling through their blood, but they both wanted to make sure they could do it correctly so as not to explode them all to pieces or something.
“No, no, Hunter. Less harsh lines. Softer.” Charity glanced down at the page and then up at Hunter’s disaster of an attempt. Sighing she laid the book on the metal next to her and pushed herself to her feet. She took Hunter’s hand, trying hard to ignore the way her own blood seemed to explode into flames. There’s no magic there, she told herself harshly. “Like this.” She led his hand through the spell until the air smoked and the image burned in front of them. She looked up, got caught in his gold eyes.
He watched her, an unreadable look on his face.
It made her heart stutter in her chest. Before he could say anything she dropped his hand. “Now try it on your own. I can’t do everything for you, you know.” Charity grinned playfully, dodging out of the way as he tried to push her over. She rescued the book from the twisted metal and perched, watching them expectantly. “Go. Do something.”
Shane rolled his eyes. “Give the girl a book and she’s suddenly the boss.” He moved away several feet so he wouldn't accidentally ignite her. He’d done it before, and Charity didn’t relish the idea of it happening again.

TWO WEEKS until Feudlings in Sight is released!!

I've been a busy girl since Feudlings released in August. The sequel, Feudlings in Flames, has been in editing and is waiting for it's turn to come out (September 3!!), and I wrote a short novella to go along with them -- a peak into Hunter and Charity's lives before Ari even comes along (although she does have a cameo. Shhhh! Don't tell!)

I can't release the cover yet, but I CAN release the back cover blurb. So here it is! The novella will be available on August 1 wherever ebooks are sold!

Feudlings in Sight Excerpt!!!

I hope you like it!

Charity watched them practice the spells for an hour, first just trying to get it right and then igniting it and pushing it away from them. The fire spread out like a flat flame-thrower. “That is cool,” Hunter said. “Nice job, Charity. We’ll definitely use that one day.”
Charity suddenly felt the two strands — from her heart and her mind, tangling around each other, frantically trying to grab the vision that appeared, uncalled for.
A girl, tall, warrior-like, with black boots and red and black hair. She was…protecting Charity. No, not exactly. She was fighting to get to Charity, screaming like a banshee. The field was buried in smoke and ash and dead bodies. Charity hurt. Her arm hurt, and she looked down to see it hanging at an awkward angle at her side. She was surrounded by Carules warriors, but somehow she sensed that they were the bad guys, and the girl, the majestic warrior who threw Edren flames, was trying to save her. Charity tried to step back, to see more of the landscape without losing the vision. She’d never done this before, and her invisible hands holding the threads shook with effort. The girl held Shane’s hand, and together they traced the spell — alable, throwing bright purple flames. Hunter fought like a demon behind them, with another boy who looked remarkably like the girl.
“Charity! Look out!” Charity’s eyes snapped open in time to see Hunter diving at her, red Edren flames shooting past her face. Her scream was cut short as he tackled her, cradling her head in his big hands as they rolled over and over through the dirt. She felt old metal cut her back and her legs, heard Shane swearing and yelling, and then Hunter pulled her to her feet. “Run!” he bellowed.
She spun away, sprinting through the field toward the abandoned building and beyond, the Council headquarters. Risking a glance over her shoulder, she saw a tall, blonde Edren leading several warriors as they attacked Shane and Hunter.
They weren’t trained. They didn’t know how to fight, and Shane might not be killed but Hunter could. She closed her eyes, praying, trying to send a vision, something.
Seconds later, Carules warriors exploded from behind the building in front of her, swarming past her. A portal opened next to Shane and he was pulled through by the Council, fighting their hands every step of the way.
“Hunter, come on!” Charles bellowed.
Hunter ignored him. He whirled around and raced toward Charity, grabbing her wrist as he caught up to her. But the doorway had already snapped shut so he pulled her recklessly through the warehouse back alley. There, in the shadows, he stopped, breathing hard, and peered around the corner, watching the field. “We’re chasing them into that old car factory,” he said breathlessly.
Charity shook like a small dog in a hurricane. Wrapping her arms around herself, she backed against the wall and sank to the ground. Hunter was bleeding profusely from his back, and he was burned in several places. “You got hit,” she murmured slowly.
“Yeah, a little. Shane can heal me.” Hunter mumbled, distracted by the battle in front of him.
Charity buried her head in her knees, willing herself to get up and escape back to the Council headquarters. But she was so tired, and something nagged at her memory…the vision she’d had before the attack. She couldn’t remember a thing about it.
